Tottenham Hotspur, the North London football club currently competing in the Premier League plan to rename White Hart Lane station on the London Overground Liverpool Street to Enfield Town/Cheshunt lines to Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham Hotspur moved to White Hart Lane in 1899, 27 years after White Hart Lane station was opened, which in turn was called White Hart Lane because of the road which has given the suburb its name, running from Wood Green in the west, to Tottenham High Road in the east. The re-naming of the station is wiping out the history of not only the station but the area, and is an insult to those who live in housing and use the station more frequently than football fans who only use the station on a maximum of 30 games per year.

Their was no consultation on name changes, which provides further disadvantage to the local people who use the services offered by London Overground and on occasions Greater Anglia. The area is having it's identity removed by the football club who moved to the area after the White Hart Lane name was in place, and slowly the area is becoming Tottenham Hotspur and nothing else.

The re-naming is also in poor taste as the history of the football club itself is at risk, even more so after local buildings with history to the club have also been mowed down to make way for the new 61,000 capacity stadium. It's as if Daniel Levy and co at the helm of Tottenham want to forget the decades of memories, both good and bad at the Lane.

Please sign the petition, we are hoping that both TFL and Tottenham Hotspur either negotiate a better name such as North Tottenham to match the geography of the area (as done with South Tottenham in the south of the area) or leave it as White Hart Lane - something we are all familiar with. Change can do more harm than good here.
