Make Texas State University Switch Summer II to FULLY ONLINE

Make Texas State University Switch Summer II to FULLY ONLINE
The Issue
Texas State University-San Marcos has made it clear they will be resuming On-Campus starting Summer II (July 7, 2020). With the second wave of COVID-19 making its way to San Marcos, numbers of people have been infected with COVID-19. San Marcos recently has been threatened with an increase in COVID cases within the recent opening of bars and restaurants. These people include students and possibly staff of Texas State University. The university has also sent out official notice for professors to include in their syllabus stating that students attending courses in lecture halls will be required to sit in "every other seat" and are required to wear a mask. Hand sanitizers would also be promptly placed in every classroom for students to use before and after entering class. As perfect as this sounds, this is not the best conditions to be having students return to campus so soon. TXST would need to have enough custodians/janitors to be sanitizing and wiping down all surfaces before the next class. This is highly impossible due to the amount of classes ran throughout the day. The second wave of COVID-19 has barely started, and is expected to continue for the rest of summer. It is my concern to voice that Texas State University should make the responsible decision of switching Summer II to fully online so that students can successfully complete their required courses at the comfort of their own homes. This will allow those who have been infected due to the recent outbreak in bars and restaurant to socially distance and avoid infecting anybody else. This is possibly the best idea to maintain a safe learning environment for the students. This will also allot for extra time for the committee to create the most effective plan for students return in Fall 2020.
