Parole granted for Jason Jamal Jackson, known professionally as 03 Greedo singer, producer

The Issue

Jason Jamal Jackson, known professionally as 03 Greedo, is an American rapper, singer, songwriter and producer from the Watts neighborhood of the county of Los Angeles, California. He began to gain recognition for his Purple Summer mixtape series which started in 2016. The 20-year sentence — which was handed down at the peak of his light-speed ascent to rap stardom — was part of a plea deal copped in the aftermath of a 2016 arrest where he was the passenger in a car found with four pounds of methamphetamine and two stolen pistols. Potter County Sheriff’s deputies had pulled him over on Interstate 40 in the Texas panhandle near Amarillo, a federally designated “high-intensity drug-trafficking area.” Presently, Greedo is attempting to overturn the sentence via a collateral attack on the previous judgment — he and his new attorneys claim that his prior counsel was ineffective and grossly negligent. But the ongoing pandemic has shut down the courts for the time being. He is currently being held at John Middletown Transfer Facility. It’s a total lockdown at the sweltering Middleton Unit in Abilene, Tex., a penitentiary already wracked by hundreds of positive coronavirus cases. To compound the purgatory, Greedo will learn the following day that a parole board has denied him his freedom for at least another year June 2021. Since then he has tested positive for coronavirus-19 and has yet to be scheduled to appear for parole well over a year later. The reason for his appeal being denied June 2020 was that the "VICTIMS" in his case feared for their life. That is totally false being that Mr. Jackson was arrested on the highway  which is known for drug trafficking and the related charges were due to an illegal search and seizure, as there were no victims attached anywhere to this case. The only victim seems to be Mr. Jackson himself and his co-defendant who were im the car with him. This seems like another attempt by the corrupt judicial system to keep this and many black men behind bars, even when the judicial system itself is corrupt and at fault. The Court Of Appeals should be held accountable for their corruption and lies that it has been getting away for hundreds of years... Jeff Weiss of (LA WEEKLY) had a phone interview with Mr. Jackson after the denial of his parole and this is what he had to say. he briefly explained Greedo's situation, saying the rapper will have to wait until 2021 for his next hearing. "Spoke to Greedo yesterday before they took away his phone privileges for the next 40 days. Texas prisons are a special rung of Hell. At his facility, they're using Covid to deny inmates all liberties and human rights. Rather than clear out the jails, they're tightening control," Despite everything,  Greedo is doing okay. Despite the sadistic treatment, his spirit is indomitable and he's been trying to stay as creative and positive as possible.
