Give seniors their diplomas.

The Issue

With the current ongoing problem that is COVID-19, many districts around the state of Texas have closed indefinitely. Many students, seniors, are upset and worried over the confusing situation that involves graduation. As students were previously 3/4ths of their way in the year, and seniors were 15/16ths of their way towards graduating high school prior to the arrival of the virus, it wouldn’t be too much to ask for them to be mailed their diplomas. It is not only fair, it’s a necessity.
Technically, senior core classes are abstract at this point in their careers, especially given how far they’ve come. English classes are the same every year, socials studies, math and science have optional courses; no specific course is necessary for graduation. Also, many alternative schools in the state of Texas would have seniors graduate almost immediately if they met the requirements involving credits; students graduate early and receive the same diploma as students in regular schools. Again, no specific core class is necessary and many seniors already meet the credit requirements needed by the State of Texas to graduate.
I am currently a senior attending South Grand Prairie High School, I am confused and worried about my graduation status. I am worried and upset over the possibility of having to wait additional time to receive the diploma that I only needed two more months to receive. I, like many other students, have enough credits to finish off my entire high school career. Please, give us the privilege of knowing our education-based life will be fine as we endure this pandemic, and the privilege to start and enjoy our lives as adults. Thank you.
