Many complaints have arisen about the water management in Papakura, Auckland, New Zealand, and I have witnessed first-hand the effects of poor water management by Veolia. My experiences and those of my neighbours have led me to believe that the time has come for change. According to the Papakura District Council's annual report, customer complaints about water quality and pressure have been consistently high during Veolia's tenure (Papakura District Council Annual Report, 2020). I firmly believe that the resources meant for our water system must be used to better our community and not to feed corporate profits.

Moreover, the New Zealand Human Rights Commission acknowledges that every citizen has a right to a clean, safe, and affordable water supply (Human Rights Commission, 2016). If we want to maintain these standards after Veolia's contract ends, prompt action is crucial.

With undivided unity, we can ensure that the Papakura community has a more substantial say in how its water is managed. Together, let us pave the way for a future where water management is in the hands of the community it serves.
