The Issue

This petition speaks from the pain of unemployment, an agony I experienced when my job was taken over by H1B visa holders. As an American citizen, I'm urging the United States government to protect its citizens first and foremost. It feels disheartening to know my job can be so easily given to non-citizens while I, and many like me, stand without employment in our homeland.

It is essential to terminate the H1B visa program that allows foreigners to take away jobs that Americans are capable of doing. Instead, the government should invest in educating Americans through scholarships, apprenticeships, and technical colleges. We should encourage 'Hire American' strategies and penalize companies that lean towards hiring H1B visa holders for positions that can be filled by America's skilled workforce. We should also have a long term plan to educate Americans properly, to help with the mass unemployment in this country among native born Americans.

Research indicates that a substantial percentage of money earned by H1B visa holders is sent overseas, thereby negatively impacting the US economy (source: Pew Research Center). Moreover, several visa holders pay taxes in their native countries, not contributing significantly to our tax revenue.

For our economy to flourish, for our citizens to feel secure, and for our nation to prosper, it is critical we place the interests of Americans first. We should value American skill and prioritize protecting and nurturing this talent.

Stand with me; lend your voice towards this cause. Let us urge the government to phase out the H1B visa program and emphasize the importance of prioritizing employment for American citizens. Please sign this petition and show your support to 'Hire American!'
