As some of you may have noticed,  a new extension has been added to our school Chromebooks. This new extension, Lightspeed Filter Agent, has been added to our Chromebooks to ensure that we are not accessing any inappropriate materials or distractions. Unfortunately, that is not all this new extension is doing. Over the past few days, a large amount of material I’ve searched up has been unrightfully blocked off. I noticed that mostly images have been blocked.  As little as a problem this may seem, I guarantee that it will continue to disrupt the learning experience.  An example of what I'm mentioning is when I looked up a calendar and at least seven photos were immediately blocked off. Even in the creation of this petition, I encountered difficulties. Countless websites have been restricted too. This new agent affects educational websites that use ads because of the extension's ad blocker. I understand that this extension was put in place to avoid distractions in class as well, such as students playing games or something else of the sort. I don't tend to do that as much as others may but, even with the small extra websites I do engage with I came upon another unnecessary blockage. That website is just a simple website for reading. I so strongly dislike the new agent that I felt the need to bring this whole thing into consideration. Administrators, this new extension may seem like a good thing but, to the students of Akins or at least to me, it has done nothing but serve as a barrier. If you are going to add a new extension please make sure that it is accurate and not preventing us from accessing perfectly ordinary things. I encourage anyone who is reading this to explore the limitations of the new extension and experience for yourselves the frustration I have felt. I'm starting this petition so that in the near future and then on out students will not be held back in these ways while working on assignments like I have been. As I stated before, over the past few days this has been a very infuriating add on. Even though the new agent is supposed to help keep us focused in class, due to the interference, I have needed to get external help off of my phone. If the whole point is to help us stay engaged in our work and we are having to seek materials from other devices then, the whole point of the agent is defeated.
