The Issue

Bullying is a grave and widespread issue with significant lasting impacts on our children's mental, emotional, and academic wellbeing. Notably, in Florence, South Carolina, numerous instances of bullying have been left unaddressed leading to detrimental effects on our children and adolescents' development. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reveals that 20% of high school students have experienced bullying, manifesting the problem's severity (CDC, 2019). Our children deserve safe and nurturing environments to learn, grow, and thrive. Therefore, this urgent plea is to demand that local and state education authorities take measurable steps to establish and robustly enforce anti-bullying policies in Florence's schools. The effects of unattended bullying extend well beyond school years and, in many cases, result in serious psychological disorders in adulthood, as stated by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH, 2021). We implore our community, fellow parents, and stakeholders to come together and put an end to this devastating issue. If we want a future with healthy, confident adults, it begins with eradicating bullying from our learning institutions today. Please sign this petition to make a stand against bullying in Florence.
