As a person who was born and raised in Evansville, Indiana I am starting this petition in hopes of true change for the people who live in apartments or rental housing in our community.

Landlords have no legal obligation to order properties to be pest or mold free! This is not ok! 

I moved into my apartment, Valore at Pine Hills on Red Bank Road in January 2023 under the pretenses I was moving into a complex that cared about the safety and welfare of their residents. I began seeing roaches in my apartment and when I reached out for pest control, I was ignored for weeks! I called the Better Business Bureau, Building Commission,  Evansville Housing Authority and the Health Department with zero luck because they have no legal obligation to order pest control.

Previously, it took them two months to install a new water heater. They also tried to charge me $200 for a late fee that was not on my end. 

I have called, emailed, texted and even left the refrigerator with a live roach nest on the leasing office front porch! STILL! No call. No email and no message back. I am being flat out ignored. 

This is just the tip of the iceberg of problems in my small apartment complex. I have received over ten messages from residents and ex-residents explaining how poorly they have been treated and ignored! 

On an even bigger scale, the Evansville community is being affected by the fact that there are no laws regarding pest and mold control! People are having to live with roaches, mice, mold and many other problems because they are no laws! 

Something must be done! Please sign the petition so we can use our voice together to change policy and create new laws for the people of Evansville!
