Newbury Community Football Group started this petition to West Berkshire Council

West Berkshire Council unnecessarily closed Newbury's local football ground in Faraday Road in June 2018 and left it to decay. This prevented thousands of hours of youth and senior football from being played there.

Due to COVID, there is a big backlog of kids matches and now more than ever a need to help and encourage children to exercise and play sport, as well as opening it up to senior teams too.

The Council's own Playing Pitch Strategy admits we are 8 full size football pitches short, so why is this one closed??

West Berks Council claim to have a plan to have a replacement football ground open in March 2022, so we want them to re-open Faraday Road until this new ground is open for organised football.

We estimate it will cost no more than £27,000 to do this, all we need is some temporary toilet facilities and a way of booking matches, as well as re-marking the pitch and putting the goals back! This also covers some security fencing to ensure the safety of the players and spectators in the ground.

For context the Council have submitted a Planning Application to demolish the changing rooms and club house to build 100+ additional parking spaces for £191,000!

Please support us in this petition to re-open the ground for next season, our proposal can be viewed below and we have the support of Berks and Bucks FA, Sport England and the Football Foundation.
