Temporarily change the name of Portland, Oregon, to Epstein Distraction, Oregon
The Issue
We, the undersigned, petition for the City of Portland, Oregon, to adopt the temporary name Epstein Distraction, Oregon for the remainder of 2025.
This renaming will serve as an acknowledgment of the bizarre and unnecessary federal scrutiny this city continues to endure. Each mention on national news will remind people that every inexplicable act by this government has an ulterior motive.
Transparency vs. Distraction
Oregon Senator Ron Wyden has been one of the loudest voices in Washington calling for the release of the Epstein files, in an effort to bring truth and accountability to the public. And yet, instead of dealing with that national scandal, eyes (and agencies) seem mysteriously focused on Portland.
The ICE Facility Land-Use Violation
Portland recently issued a land-use violation to the local ICE Detention Facility for unlawfully holding people longer than permitted. Rather than correcting course, the federal government is escalating its targeting of the Rose City. Why? Because it’s easier to pretend that Portland is a lawless frontier town than to fix a broken federal system.
The Myth of the Threat
Portland is, in fact, a peaceful city filled with coffee drinkers, cyclists, and people who argue about composting rules and where to find the best donuts. There is no rational justification for a sustained military or federal presence here. To suggest otherwise is pure theater.
Goal
By renaming ourselves Epstein Distraction, Oregon, we call out the absurdity of being made a political pawn under a national spotlight. If the country needs a distraction, let’s call it what it is, and hang the sign right at the city limits.
