Tell Yahoo! Executives: Ban All Hate Comments From Yahoo! News

The Issue

All too often, Yahoo! posts news stories from around the world - and all too often, countless readers post harassing, degrading, and often death threat-filled comments directed towards individuals in the story or even other readers in response to the stories, often when there is no call for such behavior and because said readers do it just to purposely incite anger in the people who read them. The majority of this behavior occurs in stories that discuss LGBT issues, in which whenever readers post comments in favor of gay rights of any kind, they are immediately attacked by bigoted responses. The same behavior also occurs in stories concerning religion, government, etc.

This is an everyday occurance, and the only options that Yahoo! gives in response to this kind of behavior are for people to either give such comments a "thumbs down" and to post "Comment hidden due to low rating" if the "thumbs down" number reaches a certain number. Oftentimes, the website will also disable to overall ability for readers to leave comments on stories if this kind of behavior goes too far.

These simple actions from Yahoo! are simply not enough to get the job done. Therefore, this petition is calling for the website's executives to immediately take action in ensuring that no one has to endure this kind of behavior ever again. This petition is also demanding that Yahoo! executives implement an acceptable plan in order to track down anyone who leaves comments of a hateful nature and remove the accounts responsible.

Anti-gay hatred - as well as ALL hatred - should not, cannot, and will not be tolerated, and it's time for Yahoo! to be made aware of this.
