Tell Wells Fargo No More $3.00 Debit Card Fees

Tell Wells Fargo No More $3.00 Debit Card Fees

The Issue

On October 1st, 2011, Wells Fargo the fourth largest bank in the U.S. began charging customers $3 each month to use their debit card to make purchases. This is an outrageous fee when taking into account that it cost the bank less money to process an electronic transaction then a paper check.

Wells Fargo implementation of the $3 monthly fee to their customers is leading the way for Nations Bank and other banks to charge a $5.00 monthly fee.  If this is allowed to continue, then it won't be long before Wells Fargo will raise its fees to $5.00 and continue on upward.

Not everyone will pay the fee (at least not at first). If the average monthly balance is $25,000 in qualifying accounts, they'll waive the $3 monthly fee. That means this change will hit low income customers the worst - including people like me, a disabled veteran on a fixed income.

Under TARP, Wells Fargo received 25 billion of taxpayer dollars in bailout money. Our reward has been higher fees for services that cost the bank less to process.  They have been accused along with other big banks of charging our veterans millions of dollars in illegal hidden mortgage fees.  Perhaps the banks should do what every other American is doing and tighten its belt.  Perhaps instead of charging more fees for the use of our money the CEO are paid a little less in salary.  After all, $5,600,000 salary and a $13,083,386 bonus is a pretty sweet deal at our expense.  When taken into consideration with other corporate officers I am sure us customers can see that we have to pay more fees to finance bloated salaries.  At some point, we've got to say enough is enough.

Please join me in telling Wells Fargo you're fed up. Sign my petition calling on Wells Fargo CEO John Strumph to immediately reverse the bank's decision to charge us $3 a month to use our own debit cards.
