Tell Wal-Mart: Stop Selling Toys With High Levels of Lead

The Issue

Update: The Center for Environmental Health gives us this new info "After thinking it over for a day, WalMart decides to pull products nationwide."

Oakland, Calif.-based Center for Environmental Health recently discovered that Wal-Mart and Target are carrying toys and children’s products containing high levels of lead. Kids’ chairs, toy jewelry and toy boxing gloves all contained lead well above the federal limit for the toxic heavy metal – one chair sold at Target was 70 times the limit.

Although Target has agreed to remove the chairs from its stores, Wal-Mart only pulled the items online and in California stores. It continues to sell the toys in stores nationwide. The center noted that the children’s items sold at Walmart contained three to 45 times the federal limit for lead.

Lead is a known health hazard, particularly for children. Tell Wal-Mart to put children’s health above their profits. Sign our petition asking the company to remove toys containing high levels of lead from their shelves nationwide.
