Jan 12, 2017
We’re doing everything we can to stay in our new home and avoid being thrown out into the cold. The Midcounties Coop has the chance to let us stay. We’ve sent them a licence agreement that would allow the homeless to stay warm and safe in Iffley Open House. They just need to sign! It’s time to flood them with messages of support and let them know if they shut our doors we won’t spend another penny in their stores. Use their twitter (@midcountiescoop) and other social media platforms to highlight their disgraceful attempts to put homeless people back on the streets. They need to get the message quickly as we only have hours for them to change their minds. You can help us stay by: 1. Phoning them now on 01926 516000 to complain about their attempts to put homeless people back on the streets. Just ask to speak to the property people about the eviction at the garage on Iffley Road and let them know that you won’t be buying anything from them again if they evict residence at Iffley Open House. 2. If you have time you can also contact them in loads of other ways: on their Facebook page; via Twitter (@midcountiescoop ); or ask members of their Board of Directors to help step in (https://www.midcounties.coop/…/governan…/board-of-directors/ - email address should be in the form of firstname.lastname@midcounties.coop. Please be respectful!).See ideas for text below. 3. Join us outside court to show support at 9.30am tommorrow see detalis and get updates on the Facebook event https://www.facebook.com/events/1220706658015269/ - fingers crossed it might be canceled! We’ll let people know through the event if it is so check in the morning before you head into town. Love and thanks from the Iffley Open House community. Email bullet points: - Iffley Open House have made the building a safe, secure and supportive place for homeless people in Oxford to live out the winter, while there are devastating cuts being made to homeless shelters in the area - The areas of the building in use have been checked for safety by two electricians and a plumber, and the occupants have sealed off asbestos-affected areas in response to the Co-op’s safety warnings. - Say that you will stop shopping at the co-operative’s stores or using their services and will encourage your friends to do the same if the co-op do push ahead with the eviction order.
