Tell U.S. Senate it's time to ratify the Stockholm Convention

Now is the time. The United States must join the community of nations working to protect the health of children, the environment, and future generations.

Take Action Now! Tell Senate Foreign Relations Committee leaders John Kerry and Richard Lugar to spearhead the effort to ratify the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs), the global treaty that eliminates toxic chemicals that scientists around the world agree are too dangerous to have on the planet.

By ratifying the Stockholm Convention, the United States will finally join the 164 nations that are already implementing the treaty. At a recent treaty meeting in Geneva, our country was yet again on the sidelines as key decisions were made.

POPs chemicals break down slowly in soil, air, water and living organisms, and persist for years in the environment. They concentrate in the food chain, building up in the tissues of all living creatures, including humans. And they can cause serious health effects, including reproductive and developmental illnesses, nervous system disorders, cancers and hormone disruption.

Sign the petition today. Tell Senators Kerry and Lugar to lead the way to a healthier future, by protecting our children from persistent and toxic chemicals.

Thank you for taking action!

The Honorable John F. Kerry
The Honorable Richard G. Lugar

It is time for the United States to ratify the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants. I urge you, as Chairman and Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, to lead the charge for strong and effective implementing legislation that will allow the United States to ratify this important agreement. This global treaty eliminates toxic chemicals that scientists around the world agree are too dangerous to have on the planet. It protects the health of children, the environment, and future generations.

Our country must join the 164 nations that are already implementing the Stockholm Convention. I ask that you take action today to protect our children from persistent and toxic chemicals, and lead the way to a healthier future.

Sincerely,
