The Issue

For decades, Republicans and Democrats worked together to fight human trafficking and child exploitation — building programs that supported victims, prosecuted traffickers, and trained law enforcement around the world.

Now, that legacy is under threat.

A new investigation reveals that the Trump administration is systematically rolling back efforts to fight human trafficking across multiple federal agencies.

Programs are being defunded, survivor grants delayed, top staff removed, and vital reports — like the State Department’s annual Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report — are being withheld.

  • The Department of Justice is allowing emergency support grants for survivors to expire.
  • The Department of Labor slashed global anti-trafficking programs.
  • The Department of Homeland Security has redirected agents away from sex trafficking investigations toward mass immigration enforcement.
  • And victims applying for legal protection through the T visa program are being deported.

This isn’t leadership. It’s abandonment.

We call on:

President Trump, Secretary Marco Rubio, and DHS Secretary Kristi Noem to immediately restore full funding and staffing to all anti-trafficking offices.

Human trafficking is not a partisan issue. It is a moral one. Failing to act doesn’t just abandon survivors — it empowers traffickers.

America has led the world in fighting modern slavery. Let’s not be the country that turns its back now.
