Tell the USA to return the stolen island of Navassa back to Haiti
The Issue
Petition for The US to release its claim to Navassa Island and return it to Haiti
Dear Members of Congress,
I am writing this petition to earnestly advocate for a dual-fold reconsideration of the U.S. government: By relinquishing its claim on the island of Navassa and exploring collaborative guano mining for soil restoration in Haiti.
Navassa Island, known for its rich guano deposits, presents a unique opportunity for the United States to engage in an altruistic endeavor that addresses environmental, agricultural, and diplomatic concerns. We, the undersigned, propose the following reasons for the U.S. government to consider this multifaceted approach:
1. Environmental and Agricultural Synergy: Navassa Island's guano deposits can play a vital role in restoring Haiti's soil. By engaging in collaborative guano mining, the United States can contribute to the ecological health of the region while simultaneously supporting sustainable agricultural practices in Haiti.
2. Humanitarian Aid and Diplomatic Cooperation: The initiative to relinquish the U.S. claim on Navassa Island, coupled with collaborative guano mining, can be framed as an act of humanitarian aid and diplomatic cooperation. This approach fosters goodwill, strengthens bilateral relations with Haiti, and contributes to regional stability.
3. International Collaboration for Sustainable Development: Collaborative guano mining, combined with the relinquishment of the U.S. claim, demonstrates a commitment to international collaboration for sustainable development. This approach aligns with global efforts to address challenges through shared resources and cooperative initiatives.
4. Positive Diplomatic Impact and Economic Opportunities: By taking this dual-fold approach, the U.S. government can showcase a commitment to positive diplomatic relations. Simultaneously, it opens doors for economic opportunities stemming from guano mining, fostering job creation and economic growth in both the United States and Haiti.
We, the undersigned, respectfully request that the U.S. government explore the potential of collaborative guano mining on Navassa Island while simultaneously relinquishment of its claim and allowing Haiti full sovereignty over the island. This multifaceted approach embodies principles of environmental sustainability, international cooperation, and diplomatic goodwill.
Thank you for your consideration of this matter. We trust that the U.S. government will weigh the potential positive impact of this proposal on both Navassa Island and the people of Haiti.
Sincerely,
Nicholas Ashley of the Navassa Project
