Tell the US to recognize children as human too
The Issue
On November 20th, 1989 the UN General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Nearly a year later it came into force after it was ratified by the required number of nations. This convention prohibits life imprisonment of children for crimes committed under the age of 18. It also involves two optional protocols. First Optional Protocol restricts the involvement of children in military conflicts. The Second Optional Protocol prohibits the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography. Both protocols have been ratified by more than 140 countries. As of today every country in the world has signed the Convention on the Rights of the Child except Somalia and the United States (Somalia's cabinet ministers have announced plans to sign the treaty).
