Tell the University of Rhode Island to switch to SAT-optional admissions

The Issue

The SAT is an archaic instrument that should no longer be a part of the college admissions process. Even with its new writing section, research shows the test is culturally biased and provdes advantages to the wealthy who can afford prep classes and materials.

Many universities are starting to drop the SAT from admissions, but the highly influential U.S. News and World Report's college rankings still uses the SAT and other standardized tests to evaluate higher ed institutions.

By allowing the SAT to be an important part of the rankings' metric, access to higher ed is restricted for poor people and minorities.

At at time of growing diversity, the future of our economy is dependent on everyone having a chance to get a college degree at a good university, not just people of privilege.
