Keep Development off the Reservoir

The Issue

Please sign this petition and show your support for keeping the Reservoir clean, quiet, and free of commercial development on the water.  Tell the Pearl River Valley Water Supply District to reject a developer's request to build a restaurant on the Reservoir.

A developer wants to build a restaurant near Waterwood and Eagles' Point, on the Reservoir, with water access.  If there were a restaurant on the Reservoir, Spillway Road would be much more heavily trafficked, the riders on the bike path would be impacted, there would be more traffic on the water near the Waterwood neighborhood, and the smell of restaurant food would permeate the surrounding areas.  The increased noise, activity, and loss of habitat could negatively impact the wildlife near the Reservoir.

There are plenty of nearby, commercially-zoned lots for businesses that will not negatively impact residential neighborhoods and our waterways by necessitating development on the water itself.  Once we permit this kind of development on the Reservoir to begin, it may never stop.  Let's keep this beautiful area the way it is and say yes to keeping the Reservoir free of commercial development.  The additional $20-$30,000[1] the PRV might enjoy from the land if it were to be leased to the restaurant is dwarfed by the cost to the community of more traffic, more noise, a large, unattractive feature on the water, and an open door to more development.
