Tell Texas Officials—Launch a Statewide Hot Car Safety Campaign Before Another Child Dies

Tell Texas Officials—Launch a Statewide Hot Car Safety Campaign Before Another Child Dies
The Issue
Summer is here, and so is the deadly heat. Texas, already the national leader in hot car deaths, is once again facing dangerously high temperatures—and yet, the state has no consistent, high-visibility warning campaign to prevent these tragedies.
Just this month in Florida another kid died: 18-month-old Sebastian Gardner died after being left in a hot truck for over three hours while his father got a haircut and drinks at a bar.
By the time first responders arrived, Sebastian’s body temperature had reached 111 degrees. He couldn’t be saved.
I know it is Florida, but let it be another reminder to us in Texas - that we need to do more to protect our children.
These tragedies happen in minutes—and they happen far too often in Texas.
According to national data, Texas has recorded more child hot car deaths than any other state. These are preventable losses.
Strong public education and visible alerts—on billboards, at child care centers, on social media, and in schools—can save lives. But only if they’re launched now, while summer temperatures are rising.
We’re calling on Texas state officials to act immediately: launch a statewide hot car safety campaign this summer to warn every parent and prevent another tragic death.
Don’t wait for the next headline. Act now.
Sign this petition to demand Texas take real action before another child is lost.
