Tell Tampa General Hospital to stop promoting McDonald’s

With shockingly high rates of diabetes, heart disease, and childhood obesity in the United States, it’s astounding that Tampa General Hospital would stick a McDonald’s fast food restaurant inside its medical facility. I’m writing as a Tampa-based physician to convince this hospital to stop working with McDonald’s. Please sign my petition to get McDonald’s out of Tampa General Hospital.

Near the front entrance to Tampa General Hospital, a McDonald's restaurant offers cheeseburgers, chicken nuggets, and other artery-clogging fare instead of offering low-cost, healthful, plant-based options for patients, visitors, and staff.

The hospital sees children and adults of all ages including those going for cardiology or diabetes appointments.

It's a paradox when you walk into a hospital for health issues that you encounter right as you get in from the parking lot that there's a McDonald's right there. You can't avoid it.

It doesn't make sense for a responsible institution like Tampa General to send mixed messages to the public. We should all seek to prevent health problems rather than waiting to be so sick that we end up at the hospital.

Many hospitals including Rady Children’s Hospital in California, Grady Memorial Hospital in Georgia, Riley Children’s Hospital in Indiana, and Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minnesota have already taken out McDonald's in part due to concerns from the public. Please tell Tampa General Hospital to remove the McDonald’s fast food restaurant from its facility and replace it with a healthy dining option.

Thank you.
