Tell Starbucks to Grow Organic, Eco-Friendly Coffee

Tell Starbucks to Grow Organic, Eco-Friendly Coffee
The Issue
Starbucks recently announced that, for the first time in its 40-year history, the company will start growing its own coffee. Starbucks selected China's Yunnan Province as the location for its first venture into coffee production.
Yunnan Province is an environmentally sensitive region, holding old-growth forest and four major rivers. If coffee production isn't conducted in an environmentally sound, chemical-free manner, this region could be devastated.
Industrial coffee farms typically use a ton of chemical pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers, all of which poison the land and surrounding waterways. Plus, coffee processing produces a significant amount of waste, much of which typically ends up in local waterways.
It's important that Starbucks adopt an ecologically sensitive production plan for its Chinese coffee farms. Sign our petition telling Starbucks to use organic, eco-friendly growing methods and to create a comprehensive, publicly available outline on how the company will grow coffee in China's Yunnan Province.
