Tell Senator Hob Bryan Mississippi Needs Midwives
The Issue
Mississippi for Moms is a dedicated advocacy group of mothers urgently calling for the end of the State mandate collaborative agreement requiring certified nurse midwives to pay monthly extortion fees to physicians to practice in Mississippi.
Many Mississippi residents are struggling to find the care they need during pregnancy, childbirth, and recovery. Nurse-midwives are ready to serve, but the outdated and costly collaboration requirement prevents them from providing care when women need them most. Support this petition to help remove this barrier, protect access to maternal health care, and give every mother and baby in Mississippi a better chance at a healthy start.
The obstacle is a "prolife" Democrat, Senator Hob Bryan, Chair of the Public Health and Welfare Committee. He has consistently misused his powerful position to maintain the mandate on behalf of physicians. Commonly referred to as a "shake down," the mandate protects the economic interests of physicians, limits competition, and allows physicians to leverage their role in a way that financially disadvantages nurse midwives and their clients.
We call upon Senator Bryan, who has served in the Mississippi State Legislature for 41 years, to rectify this unfair, anti-competitive practice that is harmful to Mississippi's families. We demand that during the 2027 legislative session, Sen. Bryan allows a vote on a bill that would exempt certified nurse midwives from the collaborative agreement.
Sign this petition to end this unfair practice and to increase access to nurse midwives and birthing centers.
