The Issue

The Supreme Court is weighing a case that could overturn laws in over 20 states that ban conversion therapy for LGBTQ+ minors. These laws stop licensed therapists from using harmful, discredited practices to try to change a young person’s sexual orientation or gender identity.

The case, Chiles v. Salazar, centers on a Colorado therapist who claims her free speech rights are being violated. But this isn’t about silencing anyone’s beliefs. It’s about protecting kids from psychological harm disguised as care.

Conversion therapy has been condemned by every major medical and mental health organization in the country. It’s not just ineffective, it causes real damage. Depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts are all more common in young people subjected to it.

This case could gut protections that countless families and advocates fought hard to pass. A ruling against Colorado would open the door for licensed professionals in any state to resume a practice that has already been proven to hurt children.

The bans in place don’t limit religious freedom or family conversations. They apply only to licensed professionals who have a legal and ethical duty to do no harm.

We’re calling on the Supreme Court to do the right thing:

Keep these bans in place.

Protect LGBTQ+ youth from abuse.

Support the rights of states to set standards for safe and responsible health care.

This is not a free speech issue. It’s a public health issue. And young lives are at stake.

Sign now if you agree: conversion therapy has no place in professional care, and no place in a country that values its kids.
