Saddleback Church is proposing to host a massive 250-megawatt lithium-ion battery energy storage system (BESS) on its property in San Juan Capistrano—just hundreds of feet from family homes, schools, parks, and senior living communities.

These types of industrial-scale batteries have been linked to fires, toxic gas release, and explosions. They require specialized firefighting equipment and have caused evacuations in other cities. This project has already been rejected by San Juan Capistrano city planners, yet it’s moving forward through a state-level loophole—bypassing local input and environmental review.

We support renewable energy—but not at the expense of our safety.

We call on Saddleback Church to:

❌ Cancel or decline the land lease with Compass Energy
🗣️ Hold a public listening session with neighbors and congregants
🙏 Affirm its commitment to protect people over profit
