The Issue

The financial mismanagement of the Philipsburg-Osceola School District has been a pressing issue for over a decade. As a concerned resident and taxpayer, it is disheartening to see how repeated fiscal irresponsibility has led our district to the brink of bankruptcy. Year after year, we have encountered budget issues stemming from ill-advised expenditures and poor planning. Now, faced with a substantial deficit, the school board is considering increasing taxes for the 2026-2027 school year.

Raising taxes in a community that is already economically struggling is not a sustainable solution to the deficit problem—it’s a temporary fix that burdens residents even more. Many families in our area already live paycheck to paycheck, and higher taxes would place undue financial stress on them, making it harder to meet basic needs. We should not have to bear the brunt of mismanagement that we had no part in creating.

Instead of increasing taxes, the Philipsburg-Osceola School Board must focus on finding efficient solutions to address the fiscal crisis. This could involve furloughing positions, renegotiating vendor contracts, implementing cost-cutting measures, and seeking further assistance from the PA Department of Education.

Furthermore, encouraging more transparency and involving community members in budgeting decisions can help ensure money is spent wisely and effectively. It is essential that we demand accountability from those in power and ensure that our taxes are being utilized to truly benefit our students and improve educational outcomes instead of wasting resources.

By joining together and voicing our concerns, we can press the Philipsburg-Osceola School Board to reconsider the proposed tax increase and pursue more sustainable financial practices. Let’s invest in our community in a way that supports all families and promotes educational success without imposing additional financial hardship.

Sign this petition to urge the Philipsburg-Osceola School Board to explore more equitable solutions and prevent a tax hike for 2026-2027. Together, we can make a difference.
