Tell Penn State University to Switch to Cage-Free Eggs

Tell Penn State University to Switch to Cage-Free Eggs

The Issue

Over 10,000 Penn State students, faculty, and alumni have signed a petition calling on Penn State Food Services to switch to using only cage-free eggs in its dining halls. Over 2,000 Facebook users have joined the group "Penn State -- Go Cage-Free!"

But Penn State still hasn't budged, claiming that cage-free eggs present health dangers.

All thirteen of the studies conducted studying rates of Salmonella found that eggs from caged hens had significantly higher rates of Salmonella. Every egg involved in this summer's massive egg recall came from a battery caged hen.

Beyond the dangers that caged eggs present to human health, cage-free eggs mean a more humane life for hens.  In the US, over 280 million hens suffer in cramped wire cages, cages so small that the birds can't even spread their wings.

Sign the petition to ask that Penn State listen to its students, and switch to cage-free eggs.
