The corruption around the health care issue in Washington, DC gets more and more blatant.

Just as Speaker Nancy Pelosi begins to back away from the public option, the insurance industry holds a fundraiser for her. See David Sirota's column republished at http://www.prosperityagenda.us/node/1775. Steve Elmendorf, a registered lobbyist for United Health, sent invitations to a Pelosi fundraiser at his home for this past weekend. The asking price: $5,000 for PACs and $2,400 per individual - the legal maximum for each.

It is astonishing that the pay to play politics of the Congress has become so blatant that an industry with major legislation before the Congress would try to influence the Speaker of the House with campaign contributions while the legislation is before her.

Throughout her career Pelosi has received generous support from the insurance industry, health care profiteers and their lobbyists as you can see on OpenSecrets.org. But to do so in the midst of legislation being considered is a new low.

Taking millions from these industries and then passing legislation that forces people to buy overpriced insurance is blatant pay to play politics. Please write Speaker Pelosi and tell her (1) Return donations from the health insurance industry and other health care profiteers; (2) Urge her to support the single payer bill, HR 676 as the very weak public option passed by the House will not control costs or provide coverage to all Americans.
