Pampa ISD's discrimination policy reads as follows:
"Pampa ISD does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, or age."
Despite previous attempts by students to have Pampa ISD's discrimination policy amended to include "sexual orientation," no steps have been been taken to do so.
The message that Pampa ISD is sending by failing to include "sexual orientation" is loud and clear to those of us who are aware of it: discrimination is perfectly fine, as long as it's against LGBTQ students and/or faculty.
In a nation that prides itself on diversity and personal freedom, it is a shame that discrimination of any sort is allowed or that anyone would look the other way when it does occur.
Therefore, my request is a simple but necessary one. I, a concerned student of Pampa High School, ask that Pampa ISD amend its discrimination policy to include "sexual orientation"and "gender identity and expression" in order to let others know that discrimination of any kind will not be tolerated, even if it is against LGBTQ individuals.
I, along with several students and community members, request that the discrimination policy be amended to read as follows: "Pampa ISD does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression."
