We call on Miami-Dade Commission Chair Oliver Gilbert - a Democrat - to publicly denounce the anti-LGBTQ+ hatred espoused by Republican Vicki Lopez, and to withdraw his endorsement of Lopez. It is unacceptable for anyone, much less an elected Democrat, to support a candidate who sends out anti-LGBTQ hate mail like the one pictured above, and who, in Tallahassee, regularly votes in favor of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation.

Lopez’ district in Miami, HD-113, is heavily Democratic (Biden +12).  The district should not be represented by someone who traffics in the divisive and dishonest rhetoric that pervades the Trump-Vance-DeSantis campaigns, designed to divide our community and actively promote discrimination.

By signing this petition we send a message to Commissioner Gilbert - and all elected officials - that Miami-Dade County rejects bigotry in any form, that we are a county where all are welcome who will work with us to build a stronger community, one that is thriving and which offers opportunity for all.
