Tell MAS (Muslim American Society) Dallas to Cancel it's 1920's Themed Gala for Muslimahs
The Issue
MAS Dallas is a holding a 1920's themed Gala for girls aged 14-20 on June 25th, 2022 if-God willing. I seek your support in contacting MAS Dallas to cancel this event on their premises. 1920's theme refers to the Great Gatsby theme made popular after the movie.
MAS Dallas takes Sadaqat/Zakat funds and is a non-profit 501c3 organization. The gala will be held in their banquet hall for a charge of $50/person.
All of MAS Dallas's departments were contacted prior to this petition. They were told that an Islamic Center should not become patron of such as event where girls' will be wearing revealing dresses and dancing to music. The minimum dressing enforced at this gala "will be for girls to have their ‘awra covered in front of each other (from the chest to the knees)"as narrated by the Youth Tarbiyah Director.

The Director of MAS Dallas has said that the event is a Go so this petition has been started.
A 1920s themed dress that will fulfill requirements. Imagine how many girls will be requesting their mothers to buy such dresses instead of an abaya or a hijab or a khimar to attend an event at an Islamic Center.
On the authority of Abu Sa`eed al-Khudree (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say, “Whosoever of you sees an evil, let him change it with his hand; and if he is not able to do so, then [let him change it] with his tongue; and if he is not able to do so, then with his heart — and that is the weakest of faith.”[Muslim]
Please help us cancel this event and make sure such events are not sponsored at Islamic Centers or Masajid that take our 501c3 tax-exempted donations of Zakat and Sadaqat.
Hadhrat Abu Maalik Ash'ari (radhiyallahu anhu) says that he heard Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) say: "Most certainly, there will be in my Ummah people who will make lawful fornication, silk, liquor and musical instruments." (Bukhaari)
Imraan Bin Husain (radhiyallahu anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said: "In this Ummah will be earthquakes, disfiguration (of faces which will be transformed into apes and pigs) and showers of stone (descending on them from the heaven)." A man from among the Muslimeen said: "O Rasulullah! When will this be?" Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said: "When singing girls and musical instruments will become profuse and when liquor will be consumed (in abundance)."(Tirmidhi)
Point is that music and dancing is happening amongst Muslims outside the Masjid and Islamic Centers but our religious centers should not become patrons of such activity OR benefit from such activity.
Please tell MAS Dallas to cancel the gala on June 25th and return the ticket money to girls. The girls have a choice to move the event to a home or some place other than MAS Dallas. MAS Dallas should not be involved in sales of such events.
Furthermore, this petition requests MAS Dallas to publish their financials detailing how a) the 501c3 donations and b) cash raised from ticketed events is used to pay salaries and wages. The names of officers drawing permanent salaries and their salaries need to be made public. The financials need to be made transparent on their website to the donors and public. An audit is requested. Insha'Allah.
May Allah make our Masajid/Islamic Centers (that are dependent upon Sadaqat/Zakaat) places of learning and practicing Islam as how our Prophet Muhammad (saw) would have wanted it - and staying away from activities that blindly mimic harmful practices of the disbelievers such as 1920's themed galas. Ameen.
