Tell Louisiana Governor: End Gas Chamber Killings of Dogs & Cats Now
The Issue
There is nothing painless or easy in the way pets are killed in certain Louisiana pounds. They are placed in a gas chamber without sedation where they suffocate to death. In some pounds, cats are piled in with dogs, small dogs are mixed with large dogs, and they all fight each other for the last breath of air.
The truth is, the great majority of pets killed in gas chambers are very adoptable and not sick or injured. They are perfectly healthy, but it is easier to kill them than to care for them and find them new homes. And many of these healthy animals being killed are completely restricted from being seen by the public as certain shelters don't even allow public adoptions. This is not merciful, this is just a matter of convenience.
Please contact the Governor of Louisiana and ask him to work on making changes at the state level. Also ask him to change the date for S.B. 73 from 01/2013 to 01/2011 and require shelters to hold public adoptions. Why wait more than 2 years when adoptable pets continue to suffer unimaginable deaths? How many more animals would be killed in this barbaric manner during this time? This is really important to homeless animals.
We are the voice for these defenseless animals and their only hope for change.
Please tell Louisiana Governor this inhumane suffering needs to stop NOW. And shelters should be required to allow pubic adoptions.
