The Issue

Long Beach has long prided itself on being a city that leads with integrity, fairness, and justice.
Now, it’s time for our investments to reflect those same values.

We, the undersigned residents of Long Beach, urge our City leaders to adopt the Civil and Human Rights Investment Screening Policy.

This policy ensures that public funds are invested in ways that align with Long Beach’s commitments to ethical governance, transparency, accountability, and social responsibility. It builds on the city’s existing vision for an inclusive and sustainable future, as outlined in the Grow Long Beach Economic Blueprint and the Racial Equity and Reconciliation Initiative.

By applying a civil and human rights lens to city investments, Long Beach can:

  • Strengthen community trust
  • End investments that contradict our shared values
  • Reinforce our standing commitments to equity and responsible stewardship
  • Set a regional example for what ethical, values-driven governance looks like

This policy is fiscally prudent and morally responsible. It sends a clear message that our financial choices must mirror the compassion and accountability we expect in public service.

More than an investment strategy, this is a statement of who we are as a community — diverse, ethical, and forward-thinking.

Join us in calling on Mayor Rex Richardson and all city council members to:
➡️ Agendize and formally approve the recommendation of the Equity & Human Relations Commission
➡️ Adopt the Civil and Human Rights Investment Screening Policy
➡️ Lead by example in justice, equity, and ethical governance

Add your name today. Let’s make sure Long Beach’s investments reflect the values we live by.
