Tell L'Oreal to Stop Animal Testing

The Issue

Animal testing is using animals to test for adverse side effects in cosmetics and drugs. Some methods include forced chemical feeding to determine the dose that causes death, skin and eye irritation tests where chemicals are dripped into eyes or rubbed into exposed skin, and death by asphyxiation, decapitation, or neck-breaking at the end of tests. Such practises are inhumane and outdated in today's society, where cheaper and more accurate alternatives exist, such as computer models and human cell-based testing.

Animal testing is becoming increasingly obsolete but major corporations such as L'Oreal and Maybelline are still animal testing. This poses a problem to consumers because while more companies are switching to or are cruelty-free, such as NYX or Covergirl, companies owned under major corporations still make up a large share of the market. Furthermore, China is a lucrative market to companies that used to require animal testing to sell impoted cosmetics, but that is no longer the case since 2014 when they abolished that.

There is no reason for companies to continue animal testing. It is cruel and unreasonable when better and cheaper alterntives exist. As other companies that are cruelty free who meet or exceed major corporations' quality continue to become more popular, L'Oreal and other similar companies must make the change, lest they find themselves being edged out of the market.
