To Home Depot CEO Ted Decker:

We sign this petition to support the women workers who are seeking justice after they were routinely sexually harassed and retaliated against by the management at Houston Shutters, also known as Rockwood Shutters, and call Home Depot to end its business with this company.

For years, the management of Houston Shutters has routinely molested its female workers in the workplace and harassed them while they were at work and at home. On a daily basis, management groped, demanded sexual relations, and sent lewd messages to Houston Shutter’s female workers. For example, in one message, a Houston Shutters manager demanded to watch a female worker take a bath, while he masturbated. Another manager told a female worker she could only be hired back if she came over to his house.

“For a long time, we felt like we had to put up with the abuse for fear of losing our job, but no one should have to put up with the sexual harassment and mistreatment. That’s why we’re fighting for our dignity and those of our co-workers,” said fired worker M. Lopez and E. Fuentes.

When workers did not comply, company managers retaliated against them, creating a hostile work environment for these workers: demoting their positions, adding to their workload, or giving them more back-breaking and unsafe tasks. When workers spoke out in hopes of ending the sexual harassment, Houston Shutters retaliated against these workers and fired them.

Houston Shutters is currently under multiple federal investigations and workers and their community supporters have called on the  company to end these practices and rehire the workers. The company has failed to respond.

We call on Home Depot to end its business with Houston Shutters until they:

1. End the practices of sexual harassment and retaliation at Houston Shutters, and institute and publicize policies prohibiting such practices.
2. Fire the managers who engaged in these practices.
3. Rehire the workers who were unjustly fired. 

Home Depot is an industry leader in the construction business. By ending its business with Houston Shutters until the company’s management meets these demands Home Depot will be sending a message that it values the lives of workers and is opposed to fostering hostile work environments.

Firmamos esta petición para apoyar a las trabajadoras que buscan justicia después de que la gerencia de Houston Shutters, también conocida como Rockwood Shutters, las acosara sexualmente y tomara represalias contra ellas de manera rutinaria, y llamamos a Home Depot para que finalice su negocio con esta empresa.

Durante años, la gerencia de Houston Shutters abusó sexualmente de sus trabajadoras en el lugar de trabajo y las acosó mientras estaban en el trabajo y en casa. Diariamente, la gerencia manoseaba, exigía relaciones sexuales y enviaba mensajes lascivos a las trabajadoras de Houston Shutter. Por ejemplo, en un mensaje, un gerente de Houston Shutters exigió ver a una trabajadora tomar un baño mientras él se masturbaba. Otro gerente le dijo a una trabajadora que solo la volverían a contratar si iba a su casa.

“Durante mucho tiempo sentimos que teníamos que aguantar el abuso por miedo a perder nuestro trabajo, pero nadie debería tener que aguantar el acoso sexual y el maltrato. Por eso estamos luchando por nuestra dignidad y la de nuestros compañeros de trabajo”, dijo la trabajadora despedida, M. Lopez and E. Fuentes. 

Cuando los trabajadores no cumplieron, los gerentes de la empresa tomaron represalias contra ellos, creando un ambiente de trabajo hostil para estos trabajadores: degradando sus puestos, aumentando su carga de trabajo o asignándoles tareas más agotadoras e inseguras. Cuando los trabajadores se pronunciaron con la esperanza de poner fin al acoso sexual, Houston Shutters tomó represalias contra estos trabajadores y los despidió.

Houston Shutters se encuentra actualmente bajo múltiples investigaciones federales y los trabajadores y sus simpatizantes comunitarios han pedido a la compañía que ponga fin a estas prácticas y vuelva a contratar a los trabajadores. La empresa no ha respondido.

Hacemos un llamado a Home Depot para que finalice su negocio con Houston Shutters hasta que:

1. Poner fin a las prácticas de acoso sexual y represalias en Houston Shutters, e instituir y publicar políticas que prohíban tales prácticas.
2. Despedir a los gerentes que incurran en estas prácticas.
3. Recontratar a los trabajadores que fueron injustamente despedidos.

Home Depot es un líder de la industria en el negocio de la construcción. Al terminar su negocio con Houston Shutters hasta que la gerencia de la compañía cumpla con estas demandas, Home Depot estará enviando un mensaje de que valora la vida de los trabajadores y se opone a fomentar entornos de trabajo hostiles.
