Over the past week, 3 Virginia State Senators have said they will be filing legislature to ban ALPR's throughout the Commonwealth. These 3 Senators are Senator Sturtevant of District 12, Senator Aird of District 13, and Senator Saddam of District 37. The aforementioned Senators have all cited issues regarding privacy concerns, instances of misuse, and the mass-surveillance-Esque nature of these cameras.

Governor Spanberger, however, has called the idea of a ban "overly simplistic" and supports restrictions, rather than removal.

This petition exists for 2 reasons;
1: To tell Members of State Legislature that their constituents want a ban, and;
2: To tell Governor Spanberger that the problem Virginians have with Flock is not only the lack of restrictions on the database of where every single Virginian has been in the past month, but rather the fact said database exists at ALL.

If you are still not sure on whether you think they should be banned or not, here's why they should be banned:
There have been 100+ instances of police officers using data collected by flock cameras to stalk or spy on romantic interests
Flock data has consistently been shown to have poor security against unauthorized usage, such as that by federal agencies.
Federal agencies such as ICE have repeatedly taken data from municipalities without authorization or legal procedure
These cameras record you no matter if you have broken the law or not
They read much more than your license plate, such as being able to tell the make/model of your car, damage to your car, what bumper stickers you have, etc.
Even though they can/have been used to convict someone of a crime, on multiple separate occasions, flock and/or municipalities have refused to give data that would prove a person's innocence in a criminal investigation.
Flock has often refused to remove their cameras when ordered to by municipalities, including Harrisonburg here in Virginia, resulting in cities and counties being forced to put trash-bags over the cameras to prevent Flock from illegally continuing to surveille their area.
Flock cameras are VERY often installed in illegal and unsafe ways, in the word of the company (to their employees) They're "trying to install as many as fast as we can"

As for state legislature support, the only members we currently know have an opinion are the Senators mentioned in the beginning. I myself have contacted every Virginia State Senator, and am in the process of contacting all HoD representatives. So far only 2 Senators have responded, those being Senator Saddam, who is in support of a ban, and Senator VanValkenburg, who is currently undecided, or is not ready to publicly share his opinion.
