Tell Governor Chafee: No one should be left out in the cold this winter
We are facing another frightening winter.
A recent count has found that there are more homeless men and women sleeping outside than we have ever seen in Rhode Island. There are currently hundreds of more homeless than there are shelter beds to accommodate them.
Once again, the temperature is dropping and we are facing a winter shelter crisis.
We are calling on Governor Chafee to help avert this immediate crisis and to invest in long-term solutions to homelessness in RI. Sign and share this petition to help ensure no one is left out in the cold this winter!
- Governor Lincoln Chafee
I am writing to ask you to please ensure emergency shelters are adequately funded this winter. No one should have to sleep outside this winter and we need your leadership to help avert this crisis.
Shelters, while necessary for safety, are a short-term band-aid to a systemic problem. As you develop your budget for next year, I urge you to invest in long-term solutions to the homelessness crisis in RI. Please create a dedicated funding stream for affordable housing so we can ensure a continued investment in homelessness prevention.
