Tell General Mills and Kellogg to stop climate change making people hungry

The Issue

One in eight people around the world goes to bed hungry.

What’s worse is that many of these people are the ones who produce the world’s food – farmers. Climate change is the single biggest threat to winning the fight against hunger – yet food companies are making climate change worse.

Outside of the farming community of Komonah, Liberia, a company that sells to a supplier of Kellogg and General Mills is planning an expansion—both forest and farm land. Clearance of this land has the community worried. “We don’t want the company here to operate on our land,” says Eric, a married father of five young sons who mainly grows rice, cassava, corn on about 2 hectares of land in the community. Liberians like Eric depend on the land to feed their families and earn a living.

Kellogg and General Mills - the makers of Frosted Flakes and Cheerios - do business with companies that worsen climate change by burning down forests to clear land, and by over-using polluting fertilisers. These practices drive climate change - and worsen droughts, floods and natural disasters - meaning families like Eric’s go hungry.

But it doesn't have to be this way. No company is too big to listen to its customers.  When enough of us speak out, companies listen.

Call on Kellogg and General Mills to cut their emissions, and to tell us how they're doing it, so we can hold them to account. Tell them to get behind small-scale farmers like Eric and their families, struggling in the face of extreme weather.

Your action will help farmers like Eric to make a decent living, and together, we can stop climate change from making more people hungry.
