Tell Founder of Tequila Party to Get Politically Real and Don't Make a Mockery of Real Latino Issues

In a response to the growing Tea Party movement, Dee Dee García-Blasé, founder of SomosRepublican.com, has initiated a Tequila Party that though well-intentioned, makes a mockery of the hard work that has been done by several Latino organizations in the United States.

By trying to capitalize on the growing resentment by US Latinos towards its elected officials, García-Blasé not only perpetuates the old and tired stereotypes of happy Latinos having a FIESTA with TEQUILA, she is basically dividing Latino groups instead of uniting them.

Her public promotion of a Tequila Party "social movement" will only distract the media and others from the real issues and in fact, is making a mockery of the hard political work that needs to be done.

We ask that you let García-Blasé know that the Tequila Party is a dumb and childish idea. We don't need quotes like the one she gave on Tucson television on June 4, when she said:

“The siesta is over amigos. The fiesta begins today."

DEMAND THAT THE TEQUILA PARTY NAME BE CHANGED RIGHT NOW!!!! ¡DILE NO AL TEQUILA Y SÍ A LA UNIDAD LATINA EN ESTADOS UNIDIOS!

UPDATE: THE MOCKERY IS ALREADY GETTING WORSE. THIS FROM ARIZONA:

"Sen. Don Shooter’s choice of costume when he showed up at the State Capitol for Friday’s special session had people talking.

For his entry, Shooter (R-Yuma) donned on a sombrero, a sarape and a half-filled bottle of tequila. After his grand entrance, he changed his clothes before hitting the Legislature floor.
The senator took part in a special session called by Gov. Jan Brewer with the hope of extending jobless benefits that expire Saturday."

Letter to
Dee Dee García-Blasé
As a committed US citizen who believes that comprehensive immigration reform is one of this country's most important issues right now, I urge that you please stop promoting the name Tequila Party as the grass-roots "social movement" you claim it to be. The image of Tequila makes a mockery of the work that I and others do to help US Latinos achieve political equality and gain. By using the Tequila Party as your means to get your point across, you are instead perpetuating old and tired Latino stereotypes that will not further our cause. Please change the name. Here are some alternatives:

The Unity Party
The Latino Unity Party
The Liberty Party
The Justicia Party

Thank you.

PS Say NO TO TEQUILA and YES TO LATINO UNITY

AND HOW DO YOU EXPLAIN THIS? ALREADY YOU ARE PERPETUATING STEREOTYPES:

Sen.
