Tell Durham Region and Pickering City Council That OPA38 Must Be Rejected!

Tell Durham Region and Pickering City Council That OPA38 Must Be Rejected!
The Issue
Dear Pickering Residents,
The Official Plan Amendment (OPA) 38, otherwise known as the Kingston Road Corridor Intensification Plan, must be rejected by Durham Region and returned with recommended changes by the Region of Durham Planning Department.
Here is why OPA-38 should be rejected:
- OPA-38 will drastically alter the character of Kingston Road. Changes include a string of skyscrapers along a traffic expressway that will have negative impacts on surrounding communities.
- OPA-38 lacks a vision of a main street that provides destination points to attract existing and future Pickering residents to participate in social, community, recreational and economic activities.
- OPA-38 fails to consider what a sustainable community looks like. The proposed lacks social spaces, green spaces, and public spaces.
- As stated in the provincial intensity policy, municipalities should not be able to maximize projected growth at the cost of negatively harming residents.
- OPA-38 will cost us many local businesses as they will be unable to afford relocation during construction or the renting of future commercial spaces.
Sign this petition to let the Commissioner of Planning and Economic Development know that we, the undersigned, are opposed to O.P.A. 38 submitted to the planning commissioner for approval.
By signing this petition, I reject O.P.A. 38. The proposed intensification should be no more than four stories in height for townhouses or semi detached housing with green spaces and commercial units along Kingston Road next to or near to existing residential communities. I affix my signature to the petition.
