The Issue

In 2023, my energy bills have skyrocketed, sometimes reaching nearly half the cost of my rent. Despite being away from home most of the day due to my demanding job, my electricity bill continues to climb, leaving me puzzled and financially stressed. I'm not alone in this struggle—many North Carolina residents are grappling with similar situations, paying more than double their usual amounts to keep their lights on.

This year has been particularly tough for countless families already facing economic challenges. The rate hikes imposed by Duke Energy are creating an added burden on household budgets, making it increasingly difficult for families to afford basic utilities. Energy access is a necessity, not a luxury, and customers in North Carolina deserve fair and affordable rates.

Families are being forced to make painful choices between paying their utility bills and other essential expenses like groceries, healthcare, and education. It's imperative that Duke Energy takes immediate action to alleviate this stress by freezing upcoming rate hikes and implementing more transparent billing practices.

In defense of hard-working North Carolinians, we urge Duke Energy to engage in a dialogue with customers about sustainable and just pricing. Relying on statistics from state regulatory bodies and consumer organizations, it's clear these price increases are not aligned with inflation rates or average income growth, leaving many vulnerable. It's time for Duke Energy to demonstrate corporate responsibility and alongside, strengthen community trust by actively addressing this ongoing issue.

Sign this petition to stand with North Carolina families and demand that Duke Energy halts additional rate hikes until transparent and equitable solutions can be reached. Let's push for accountability and relief for those who need it most.
