The Issue

Millions of Americans Are Impacted Every day, Americans postpone or completely avoid dental care because they cannot afford it. Families, seniors, veterans, children, and working adults are forced to choose between paying rent, buying groceries, or treating a painful dental condition. Modern medical science recognizes that oral health is closely connected to overall health, yet dental care continues to be treated differently from medical care. Many dental plans include annual benefit limits, limited covered services, and higher out-of-pocket costs that can leave patients without access to necessary treatment. This issue affects millions of Americans—not just one individual. It is a consumer protection issue, a public health issue, and a healthcare policy issue. What Is at Stake? Untreated dental disease can contribute to pain, infection, difficulty eating, missed work, financial hardship, and reduced quality of life. Delaying dental care can also increase the need for more extensive and expensive treatment later. Congress is already considering legislation related to oral health, Medicare dental coverage, workforce development, and federal oral health programs. This is an appropriate time to also review whether the continued separation of dental care from medical care remains justified in light of current medical science and public health evidence. We are asking Congress to review whether federal healthcare policy should better recognize oral health as an essential component of overall health. Why Now? Healthcare policy is actively being discussed in Congress. We believe this is the right time to ensure that the voices of patients, families, and consumers are heard. By signing this petition, you are asking Congress to: Review whether dental care should continue to be treated separately from medical care. Evaluate whether current dental coverage adequately protects consumers. Consider reforms that improve access to comprehensive oral healthcare. Hold congressional oversight hearings on federal dental policy. How You Can Help This movement depends on public participation. Sign this petition. Share it with your family and friends.
