In present day United States, a ban on nation-wide Assault Weapons is an essential step to saving the lives of many from the grasp of Gun Violence.

Illinois is an Island in a sea of assault weapons, as Illinois is one of the few states who have actually banned assault weapons. But this doesn’t mean the people of Illinois are safe from the reach of guns, as anyone could purchase an Assault Weapon in one of the states in the Chicago Tri-State area, and come back to Chicago to cause mass violence.

Due to this ease of access, a federal Assault Weapons ban is necessary to curb this violence. A ban like this is not out of reach, as not even 30 years ago a national ban was in effect. This ban is needed now more than ever, because of the mass rates of gun violence. When this ban was in place, Assault Weapon related violence decreased around 70%, so I'm sure this would cause a decrease in mass gun violence.

While a ban like this most likely wouldn't stop all future gun violence, it would be a step in the right direction. This is not a weapon of self defense, but instead, is a weapon that was made with the intention of causing the most violence in the least amount of time possible.
