Keep City Pit Bull Ban Enumclaw Council Members!

This petition made change with 132 supporters!

The Enumclaw City Council is considering lifting their city's longstanding ban on pit bull breeds. According to council members, the city is looking at removing the ban simply because King County Animal Control is not currently enforcing it -- even though the city PAYS King County Animal Control for their services with taxpayer dollars!

Fighting Breeds Are Not Family Pets and Threaten Public Safety

Pit bull maulings have dramatically increased across the U.S. since 2007. Only cities that regulate this dog breed have avoided this fate. Since the mid 80s maulings and fatalities inflicted by these dogs have grown at a staggering pace and more cities have adopted pit bull ordinances. There are now over 750 U.S. cities that regulate this dog breed in addition to the primary military branches: The U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Air Force all ban this breed and several others from base and privatized housing, domestic and abroad.

What Enumclaw Residents Should Know if Ban is Lifted

Because Enumclaw allows leashed pets on playgrounds and in parks, there will be pit bulls where children play. There will be pit bulls on the streets where children ride their bicycles and play. Is Enumclaw prepared for an increase in 911 calls? Is Enumclaw prepared for more attacks and deaths on pets and livestock?

Enumclaw is not used to dramatic pit bull maulings that mainly affect children and senior citizens. They have not witnessed these horrors because there has been a longstanding ban in place to prevent them. 15-months after the City of Cincinnati repealed their longstanding pit bull ban two things happened: 1.) Shelter occupancy of pit bulls went up to 85% in city shelters and 2.) "Extreme" high profile pit bull maulings began.

Don't Let this Happen in your Community

Consider last week's attack on Councilman Todd Ruckle's  6-year-old daughter, Emily. Consider the most recent attack in Seattle - Woman mauled in pit bull attack; 'The screams were horrific' and the KIRO news story which found that in King County pit bulls are 8.5 times more likely to attack than any other dog. Consider that in the 9-year period from 2005 to 2013, pit bulls killed 176 Americans and accounted for 62% of the total recorded deaths from canines.

Sign Now - Before the City Council Meeting on Oct. 13!

Sign this petition NOW to let your council members know that you strongly oppose lifting the ban and to urge them to apply MORE pressure on King County Animal Control to do what they are being contracted to do in the interest of the public's safety.
