Tell Breast Cancer Charities to Use Innovative, Humane, Non-animal Research Methods

Atlanta, GA, United States
Created June 24, 2009

The Issue

Decades after the "war on cancer" was launched, we still have no cure for breast cancer. And the billions of dollars spent on cruel and ineffective animal research have not identified the causes of breast cancer or a treatment.

The use of animals for breast cancer research is suboptimal due to animals' significant genetic, cellular, and physiological differences from humans. Animals suffer and die as a result of experiments and the misleading results can pose real risks to human health.

Fortunately, some researchers and charities are leading the way toward more ethical and effective, human-centered research.

Humane, nonanimal research being conducted by compassionate organizations such as the Avon Foundation, the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation, and their vital joint project, the Army of Women, focus on how breast cancer starts in women's bodies and on identifying ways to combat the genetic and environmental factors that increase the risk of developing breast cancer.

But some health charities continue to fund cruel animal experiments.

Please tell them you want scientifically-sound and humane research that will stop breast cancer before it starts.

Send a single e-mail that will go to executives at all the charities listed below:

1. American Cancer Society

2. American-Italian Cancer Foundation

3. Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute

4. Breast Cancer Research Foundation

5. The Cancer Center for Detection and Prevention, Inc.

6. Coalition Against Breast Cancer

7. John Wayne Cancer Institute

8. Lynn Sage Cancer Research Foundation

9. National Breast Cancer Coalition Fund

10. National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc.
