Tell Blue Flame to Get Away From the Eagle Marsh Wetlands!

Tell Blue Flame to Get Away From the Eagle Marsh Wetlands!
The Issue
Please see "Proposed hotel next to Eagle Marsh causes concern" and the Rezoning Petition Application for information on this proposed project.
Background: Eagle Marsh is an 831-acre wetland on the southwest border of Fort Wayne. More than 250 types of animals have been seen within its boundaries, according to the Little River Wetlands Project, including 28 bird, two amphibian and one reptile species endangered or considered vulnerable in Indiana.
With 14 miles of walking trails and 2 square miles of meadow, prairie and forest land, Eagle Marsh is a jewel of a nature preserve. But Little River Wetland Project is worried how this gem could be scuffed with a proposed four-story hotel north of the marsh.
Blue Flame Hospitality presented its Olde Canal Hotel proposal for a dual- branded Hilton hotel during a public hearing of the Allen County Plan Commission Thursday. The developer wants the commission to rezone the land from professional office and personal services to limited commercial use. - "Proposed hotel next to Eagle Marsh causes concern"
Wetlands are invaluable ecosystems that provide numerous environmental, social, and economic benefits. They serve as natural filters, safeguarding water quality, mitigating floods, and fostering biodiversity. These unique habitats support countless species of wildlife and offer recreational opportunities for our communities. Indiana's poor policy choices have allowed for 85% of native wetlands to be destroyed.
The construction of a gas station has now begun at the intersection of W Hamilton and Illinois Rd, where a small area of wetlands and floodplains now stand at risk of runoff pollution. Allen County snuck this permitting process under our noses, but we cannot let this happen anymore. We have to stand up and protect the natural lands of Fort Wayne.
Our Cause: We, concerned citizens and advocates for the environment, have come together to launch this petition to protect this wetland area threatened by further construction. Eagle Marsh is not just a piece of land; it is a complex ecosystem that sustains life and nurtures our local environment. We believe that it is our moral obligation to safeguard these fragile ecosystems for current and future generations.
Why We Need Your Support: The proposed hotel, or any future project around the perimeters of Eagle Marsh, if approved, will debilitate this vital ecosystem. The consequences of this could be far-reaching and detrimental to our community and the environment. We believe that responsible, sustainable development is possible without harming our precious wetlands.
Your Signature Matters: By signing this petition, you are showing your commitment to protecting Fort Wayne's natural heritage and the ecological balance that wetlands provide. Your signature amplifies our collective voice and empowers us to make a lasting impact.
Spread the Word: Share this petition with your friends, family, and community to raise awareness and garner support. Together, we can protect Eagle Marsh from pollution and ensure its survival for future generations.
