Improved internet speed and reliability in Kleinemonde, Eastern Cape, South Africa
Improved internet speed and reliability in Kleinemonde, Eastern Cape, South Africa
The Issue
Residents in Kleinemonde do not all have access to fast and reliable internet. ADSL is available through Telkom but the maximum line speed is 4mbps and this is usually much slower and often unreliable. Turnaround time for faults is usually a couple of days at the most, but the internet is often faulty and restricts full use resulting in frustration and wasted time to report faults.
LTE is available to some residents but this is dependent on where you live and whether you have reception. Many people are not able to receive adequate reception and have to rely on ADSL as their only source of internet.
People are relying more on internet to work from home, do banking, video conferencing and entertainment (livestreaming, e.g., Netflix, YouTube, etc) to name a few. As a result, a faster, more reliable internet is required.
During Lockdown because of the coronavirus pandemic, Openserve, as well as other ISPs are upgrading data speeds for fibre and DSL customers from 1 May 2020 and lasting for three months, but as our exchange can only handle up to 4mbps (as I have been informed) we will not benefit from this "high speed Broadband connectivity that will enable South Africans to better cope with everyday activities during this period". “Speed is critical in the fast-paced ever-evolving business landscape we find ourselves in today. It’s important to keep up as we learn to adapt,” concludes Althon Beukes, Openserve CEO.
Please can someone assist us to get improved Internet speed and reliability!
