Stop interventions in Qutb Shahi Tombs conservation

Stop interventions in Qutb Shahi Tombs conservation
The Issue

Ms. Hima Kohli
Hon'ble Chief Justice
High Court of Justice Telangana
Your Ladyship,
It is greatly appreciated that Your Ladyship acknowledges and shares our concern with the state of heritage structures in Hyderabad city. We would like to bring to your notice the fact that the Interpretation Center at the Qutb Shahi Necropolis is being constructed to provide a world class visitor experience to the necropolis. The Qutb Shahi necropolis is one of the forerunners in the race to Telanagana's next UNESCO World Heritage Site tag and if proper conditional requirements are not met, the site may never get notified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This plea comes in view of the stay order on the construction of the Interpretation Center after a petition was filed in the High Court of Telangana by one Md. Ilyas. The petitioner Jaferuddin and Ilyas are the same duo who have been filing cases from some years to stop various works at the Qutb Shahi tombs. The Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC) which have been restoring several monuments across the world and in India such as the the walled city in Lahore, Humayun's Tomb, Sundar Nursery and Hazrat Nizamuddin Basti in Delhi to name a few, is carrying out the restoration works at the tomb since 2013 and has restored several monuments to its glory. With regard to the interpretation centre, AKTC officials and others said that there is completely false information that has ben provided to the courts. A panel of heritage experts that was commissioned by Chief Justice Hima Kohli had recently visited several monuments in the city but the development regarding the Interpretation Centre is truly concerning. News articles from 2016 mention the petitioners have previously attempted to encroach the tombs complex by trying to bury kin. Here is the full report on the petition and how a false narrative has been built to suit vested interests which want to encroach our prized heritage. We wish to bring this to Chief Justice Ms Hima Kohli's attention in a desperate attempt to save our monuments.
Thank you.
